Columbine High School in the Denver, Colo. is one of several schools in lockout at this time after someone phoned in a threat to the high school. Of course Columbine is the same high school where a massacre occurred in April 20, 1999 when two students carried out a shooting spree. Twelve people died, and another 24 were injured on that day.
Police investigate threat at Columbine High School
The term “lockout” basically means that classes are able to continue inside the school but that the perimeter of the campus is closed. A spokesperson for the school district said all students and personnel at Columbine are safe and that police are investigating the threat.
A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office said deputies are around area schools as a precaution. According to the Jefferson County Public School Twitter page: some of the other area schools which are on lockout along with Columbine High School right now include: Columbine Hills, Dutch Creek, Governor’s Ranch, Leawood, Normandy Elementaries and Ken Caryl Middle.
