BlackBerry Updates BBM For Android Lollipop Support, Better iOS 8

Updated on

BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) just update it’s messenger app BBM to better support iOS 8 and Android Lollipop. The updates include improvements on existing features. Those who don’t see the update just yet may have to wait at least 24 hours

One of the notable changes with BBM is stickers are now available in groups. To kick off the celebration, all BBM sticker packs are now available for just $0.99 for a limited time. Another significant upgrade is the increased timer length which enables users to increase the time to a maximum of 60 seconds.

BlackBerry Messenger for iOS 8 received visual makeover

BBM for iOS 8 also got some nice upgrades with a fresh new look and improved screen size support. It includes sleek design updates like a flat user interface and sharp looking transparencies. BBM appeals to Apple users who would otherwise use iMessage except it is limited to just iOS users.

BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) may never reach the same level of success it’s rivals Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) or Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. (LON:BC94) (KRX:0059935) has but it still has a sizeable number of fans who keep the company in business. Old school and longtime BlackBerry fans will be happy to know the classic Brick Breaker game has returned. The tech giant summed up the matter with the following message, “Brick Breaker, the addictive game that BlackBerry fans will surely remember, is back. And rather than wearing out your keyboard, now you can smash bricks with what has personally become my favorite method – the trackpad.”

BlackBerry revives a classic

The main reason BlackBerry is reviving old games is because the company sees a strong interest in classic 8-bit mobile games. The company added, “Classic games have resurged over the past half decade, with indie developers creating modern games with that retro 8-bit feel, Minecraft is but one example, but a quick web search will yield results ranging from the 80s-inspired pixel art subgenre to the viral so-addictive-it-was-removed-by-the-publisher Flappy Bird game. Even the makers of Angry Birds have slung themselves onboard with the recent release of Retry. Clearly, classic games such as BrickBreaker are 100% on-trend.”

Perhaps it will be the novelty of revival that will bring the spotlight back on BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB).
