BlackBerry could release the DTEK60 as early as Tuesday, according to Top Examiner. The upcoming DTEK60 has not been unveiled officially but has been leaked several times and is up for pre-order on some online shops in Canada, the U.K. and the United States.
BlackBerry DTEK60 specs
The BlackBerry DTEK60 release should finally put to rest all the reports and rumors that have been erupting since the specifications of the device appeared on BlackBerry’s site. The leaked features include a fingerprint sensor. The DTEK60 is said to be an immediate successor of the DTEK50, which has not been the best smartphone from the Canadian firm even though it was impressive to a certain extent.
The BlackBerry DTEK60 is expected to have a quad-core Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of RAM and an Adreno 530 GPU. The smartphone is believed to have only a 32GB storage capacity but come with a microSD slot. It is expected to have an 8-megapixel front camera, 21-megapixel rear camera and a non-removable Li-Ion 3000 mAh battery giving talk time of up to 26 hours (3G) and standby backup of up to 336 hours in 3G.
According to CrackBerry, the smartphone will feature Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS and a 5.5-inch AMOLED touchscreen display. The pre-order price of the phone on B&H Photo was $499.99, including an RC-1500NA rapid travel charger and a soft shell case. According to Pocket-lint, the European retail price of the smartphone is €600.
No big launch event?
BlackBerry has not made any official announcement yet, even though there have been so many leaks hinting about the eminent release of the DTEK60. There are chances that the Canada firm will release the handset without hosting a big event. This is understandable given the fact that the company has already stopped its smartphone manufacturing business. Hosting an event to release a new phone just weeks after making that announcement would not really go down well with investors, says Top Examiner.
The recent leaks, including the one from BlackBerry and the pre-order pages from retailers, are all pointing to the existence of the DTEK60. It could be possible that the device was planned much earlier than the recent strategic decision. Also it might be the case that the Waterloo company has manufactured a few hundred thousand units, so there is no other option for the Canadian firm but to launch the smartphone to get rid of whatever inventory it can, notes Top Examiner.
Whatever may be the case, we do not expect much from the phone. The DTEK60 probably will not do any wonders for the Canadian firm.
