A recent fight broke out at an Apple Store on Broadway in New Haven. The fight started when a few people began arguing over their position in line. By the time police arrived, there were a few people with bruises and bumps resulting from the fight.

Big retail store fight prompts police call over Apple’s iPhone 6

On Monday, Yale police responded to the altercation at 9:55 am Eastern Time right after receiving a complaint. The New Haven police also receive the same call. Both police departments previously received phone calls from the same store since Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) released the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in stores on Friday.

The police claimed that the problems stemmed from two rival groups from China who traveled here just to purchase as many iPhones as the stores allow per purchase. David Hartmann (representative for New Haven police) elaborated, “It has been reported to us the groups resell the phones in China for a significant mark-up ($3,000 to $4,000). These rival groups have been challenging each other over their places in line. At times these challenges have resulted in violence.”

iPhone 6 demand in China

The iPhone 6 is not available in China right now but it is still in high demand. Thanks to regulatory issues with the Chinese government, the iPhone has yet to go on sale in China. This has prompted some people to smuggle iPhones in the country and sell them at extravagant prices.

One of the people involved in the scuffle was treated at an area hospital, then released.

In other iPhone related news, a recent report from CNET indicated the iPhone 6 garnered far more interest than the iPhone 6 Plus. Both devices hit stores officially last Friday in many markets. The tech giant announced it sold a total of 10 million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus devices over the weekend. Although the Cupertino-based tech giant failed to share the exact sales numbers of each device, Mixpanel (a global analysis firm) confirmed iPhone 6 has a 2.12 percent adoption rate among all iPhones. This is comparable to the iPhone 6 Plus’s adoption rate of 0.32 percent.
