One Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) patent is offering some exciting possibilities for camera fans. This patent application filing shows a camera with optical image stabilization and something more.

The benefits of OIS

Originally, OIS was used for offsetting the movements from the photo taker’s hands by clever shifting optical elements inside the camera to reduce the blur. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) takes it a step further by combining OIS with multiple exposures and allowing the technology to take several shots at offset angles. Then the image processor takes each image and stitches the shots together to create a patchwork of images for a “super resolution”.

This means the camera is capable of creating pictures with a higher resolution than the sensor.

This patent was filed first in 2012. It is highly unlikely fans will see this feature in the upcoming iPhone 6 but that does not mean Apple won’t launch a phone with this useful feature in the subsequent future. Tech Shout elaborated in the following post, “The fact that it still hasn’t made its way to any Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone device after that produces a possibility that it could also give the upcoming iPhone 6 a miss. After all, the said iOS smartphone is expected to be a slim affair which won’t remain that if all the equipment needed to implement the above mentioned technology is crammed into it. “

The iPhone 6 may arrive sooner than expected

Another recent Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone rumor points toward an earlier release. Taiwan news source Economic Times claimed the highly anticipated smartphone will arrive in August instead of September. The news source cited information from unnamed sources. It is also speculated the iPhone 6 will come in 4.7 inch and 5.5 or 5.6 variations (the larger phone will likely debut later). Sources also expect the smartphone leader to produce a total of 80 million iPhone 6 devices by the end of the year.

This could be a big year for Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), especially if the company also releases the iWatch.
