Path, a private mobile social network, is considering the possibility of developing app for BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) next year even if the future of the devices of the Canadian smartphone manufacturer is uncertain.
The latest study released by ABI Research indicated that the market share of BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) declined to 1.5% in the third quarter. The declining market share of the company did not prevent the management of Path to expand its app to BlackBerry.
During an interview with TV One in Indonesia, Dave Morin, co-founder of Path said the company might think about developing app for BlackBerry next year. However, he did not provide further details if Path would develop app for all BlackBerry platforms. Technology observers speculated that it would be on BlackBerry 10.
Path app updates
Morin also talked about the upcoming updates for the Path app as well as his views about Indonesian users. According to him, the video uploading feature of Path, which is currently available on iPhone, will be available on Android smartphones before Christmas this year.
He also noted that Path is popular in Indonesia with more than four million active users. According to him, Indonesia is the third-largest market for Path and has the most active people using the app. He added that 54% of Path users are female.

Technology observers believe that Path is good news for BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) if it decides to develop app for its devices because the mobile social network has 20 million registered users. Path is popular on Android and iOS operating systems.
On the other hand, some people observed that Path’s popularity is declining, and it needs to expand its reach. Last month, the company reduced its workforce by 20% as part of its initiative to continue its innovation and Path 4.0.
Meanwhile, President Barack Obama is the biggest booster for BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB). The President continues to use his BlackBerry phone despite the availability of the latest smartphones. Michael Leiter, an expert in counter terrorism opined,“Knowing other countries would be interested in listening to his phone calls, he ended up using one of the most secure BlackBerrys on earth.”
