Activists Call On The Senate To Pass The $120 billion Restaurant Revitalization Fund

WASHINGTON, D.C. Tomorrow, October 2 at 10 a.m. ET, Independent Restaurant Coalition leaders Robert St. John, Caroline Styne, Bobby Stuckey, and Andrew Zimmern will call on the U.S. Senate to pass the HEROES Act, which provides for a $120 billion Restaurant Revitalization Fund for independent restaurants devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The bill is set to pass the House this evening. The fund for restaurants – provided in Division O Section 607 of the new HEROES Act – is based on the RESTAURANTS Act, a bipartisan bill that carries the support of over 200 members of the House and 40 members of the Senate. It has also received the support of over 215 small, supply chain businesses and was endorsed by a coalition of seven major corporations, including the Coca-Cola Company, Delta Air Lines, and American Express.

Restaurants and bars have been uniquely devastated by the pandemic – 1 in 6 restaurants have closed since the outset of the crisis and nearly 1 in 4 jobs lost during the pandemic have come from food and drinking establishments. As the colder weather sets in, restaurants are also expressing concern about bringing in revenue without having access to outdoor dining.
