The latest:

It’s unclear what exactly happened at Highline College a bit ago, but the lack of updates from the scene suggests that at least this time, there might not be any victims. If there is a shooting scene somewhere on the campus, police have yet to find it.

Witnesses who are in the area of Highline College are describing the scene as “like a war zone” to local media. One witness said he did hear gunfire but offered no other details. Police, ambulances and first responders converged on the college immediately after the shooting was reported. South King Fire and Rescue tells local media outlets that they’re not aware of any victims.

Highline College advises students and staff to remain sheltered in place until police reach them. Officers are clearing each building and evacuating anyone who is inside. Students are being taken to the parking lot at the nearby Lowe’s store, and parents can pick them up there. Kent Police are advising people to avoid the area around the school.

First report:

Highline College in Washington State is on lockdown after reports of shots fired. Police are on scene, and students and staff members are being told to shelter in place. Officers are going through each building trying to confirm the report of an active shooter being on scene. At this early stage of the investigation at Highline College, there are no reports of any victims, but the nation is on high alert after the deadly high school shooting in Florida earlier this week.
