Galaxy S8 To Sport Dual Camera, 8MP Front Snapper

Updated on

Samsung’s recently launched Galaxy Note 7 has been flying off the shelves. But the rumor mill is already building up excitement for the next year’s Galaxy S8, which is said to have a new design. A tipster on the Chinese microblogging site Weibo has revealed that the S8 will have a dual-camera setup on the back. The Galaxy S8 is expected to be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in February next year.

Sony to supply 13MP sensor for Galaxy S8

Weibo user ‘I Ice Universe’ said in a post that the Galaxy S8 would have a combination of 12MP and 13MP rear cameras. The 12-megapixel S5K2L2 sensor will be produced by Samsung in-house, but the 13MP sensor is said to be supplied by Sony. The dual-camera setup will give users more control over the depth of field in photos. Apple’s upcoming iPhone 7 Plus will also feature a dual camera technology.

The front camera in Galaxy S8 will also be upgraded to 8MP from 5MP in Galaxy S7. Samsung has kept the front camera at 5-megapixel for years. The S8 will also get an iris scanner that debuted with the Galaxy Note 7. But one of the biggest highlights of the Galaxy S8 will be its design. A Samsung executive recently said that the dual-edge display will become the identity of the Galaxy S line in the future. It means the upcoming Galaxy S8 would be the first device in the Galaxy S line to feature a dual-edge screen similar to the Note 7.

Galaxy S8 to be powered by Exynos 8895

Samsung’s next-gen flagship smartphone is said to feature a 4K UHD display for enhanced virtual reality experience. Rumors suggest that the Galaxy S8 could be compatible with Google’s Project Daydream VR standard. Another report from MobiPicker says that the device will be powered by an Exynos 8895 processor with 4GHz clock speed. The new processor will be made using the 10nm manufacturing process.

The Exynos 8895 is rumored to be 30% faster than the current Exynos 8890. Among other things, the S8 is expected to pack 6GB RAM and run Android 7 Nougat right out of the box.
