iPhone 8 Concept Shows An Edgeless Design

Updated on

While the next handset from Apple the iPhone 7 has been the mainstay of speculation for some time now, because it could be a clone of the iPhone 6s. There are also rumors doing the rounds about what Apple may do next with a possible iPhone 8. So while we hang around and wait for the US tech giant to fill us in with some official detail. There’s a new iPhone 8 render for us to take a look at and this one is including what’s being called an Edgeless display?

iPhone 8 Design

If you’ve been following everything iPhone for a while, then you know that Apple has come under fire for what many a critic see’s as the boring unimaginative design of their handsets. So, whatever side of the argument you find yourself on, there’s no denying that Apple has got some things right over the years. The sheer amount of copycat devices coming out of the likes of China just goes to prove it!

Over the past few months, I have written a few pieces, which speculated about the possible design of the iPhone 8. And some of these has been quite far fetched, however, seeing as 2017 is the tenth anniversary of the original iPhone launch outlandish rumors are to be expected.

Edgeless Display

If you have not heard of him before, Tobias Buettner is a designer who has a passion for developing concept ideas for upcoming mobile technology devices. Recently he put together a render of what he thinks / hopes Apple may deliver with the iPhone 8, actually and to be more specific he has dared to create what is being called an Edgeless design.

The iPhone 8 render shown in the image above can be considered to be unique among its peers for many a different reason. If you take a close look, you will see that it has no rounded edges and because of this the iPhone 8 is square looking. However, it does still manage to have a thin waistline, as for the back of the concept device it looks like it has a glass rear as well as dual cameras and flash.

If you’ve been keeping up with rumors, you may have come across the one about the iPhone 8 not having a Home button! It’s clear to see in this concept image that Tobias Buettner does not agree with that because the Home button remains, however, the same can not be said for the bezels as the display looks as though it wraps around.

Here’s how the iPhone 8 may look when compared with earlier versions of the iPhone.

Final Thoughts

Yes, this is just another rumor / what the iPhone 8 may possibly look like piece. However, it is commonly understood that quite a few of the well-known designers get their concept designs quite close to the mark. So they are always worth taking a look at.

As for what Apple will actually do in 2017, who knows, but what I can tell you is that it is an important year in the lifetime of the iPhone. And I wouldn’t be surprised if it did have an Edgeless display or even a curved one.

What would you prefer to see an Edgeless display or a curved one, or maybe even both?
