Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) will release Broadwell chips powering tablets and laptops at the Computex trade show. The Broadwell chips are releasing later than expected, but they are an important offering from the chip maker.
Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) announced Broadwell as a significant development in the chip manufacturing segment, but the launch was delayed several months due to production problems.
Slimmest hybrid devices to use Broadwell
The chip manufacturer will unveil a two-in-one device at the event in Taipei. Llama Mountain, the device powered by the Intel chip, will be the slimmest hybrid device based on a fifth-generation Core processor, says a report from PC World, citing sources familiar with the company’s plan. Except for this, there was no information given about the Broadwell chip or the hybrid size or weight.
Until now, Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) had announced only one Broadwell chip primarily made for gamers, but the shipment date is still not known. The company already demonstrated an all-in-one reference PC called Black Brook to showcase the performance of the Broadwell chip in desktops.
Intel has always been on schedule
Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) has hardly delayed a launch of any chip before Broadwell, as the company usually launches new chips on an annual basis. However, various technical glitches have surrounded the Broadwell chip launch. According to the company, the Broadwell chips will save 30% more power and are speedier than the Haswell chips, along with giving enhanced graphics. The Broadwell Chips will support new technologies like DDR4 memory, as they have new graphic cores.
Due to the delay in the launch of the Broadwell chips, PC silicons like Skylake may also get delayed, although CEO Brian Krzanich had stated that Skylake, a chip based on the new architecture, would not be delayed. Broadwell production has been started, however, and the first lot of chips has been shipped to PC manufacturers. According to the company, the silicon will be available by the holiday season, however, it did not confirm laptop or desktop variants. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) is all set to showcase Broadwell-based tablets and laptops at Computex, ensuring that the chip will be released by the end of this year.
