An engineering technician whose LinkedIn profile states he works for Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) faces charges of driving under the influence after police pulled him over in San Francisco. According to Pacifica Patch, police say they pulled over 26-year-old Jonathan Abelian after receiving reports of someone driving erratically.
Tesla engineer accused of driving drunk
Police say Abelian was driving a vehicle on its rims and that the vehicle looked like it had been in a crash. Officers allegedly arrested him near the corporate headquarters for Genentech early Tuesday morning. The engineer reportedly admitted to officers that he had consumed alcohol and had purposely inhaled aerosol fumes.
Officials say the damage to his vehicle suggested that he had hit a center median on the highway. Police do not believe his car collided with any other vehicles. They say Abelian failed a number of sobriety tests and thus was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. A judge set bail at $7,500.

It’s worth pointing out that the only reason this story is making national news is because the engineer’s profile states that he works at Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA). There’s no proof that he actually does work there. Besides, most companies tend to think that what employees do on their own time is their. Of course when that interferes with work quality or being in jail keeps them from being at work, it’s a whole different matter.
His story is far less fun than the story we had recently about Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) CEO Elon Musk getting stopped for speeding along with actor Johnny Depp and other cast and crew members of the film Transcendence. Musk apparently had a sense of humor about the situation, although the police offer who stopped them certainly did not. Also the story indicated that Transcendence co-star Paul Bettany was sitting in Johnny Depp’s lap when they were stopped by police.
