Along with the acquisition, 3D Systems also stated that it will streamline all its healthcare activities into a single unit headed by Medical Modelling President Andy Christensen, who is now been named as 3D Systems’ Vice President, Personalized Surgery and Medical Devices.

Over the past few years, 3D Systems Corporation (NYSE:DDD) has made numerous acquisitions with the latest one being Digital Playspace, which would enable the company to produce 3D printed toys. 3D Systems is also making its presence felt in the 3D printed food market with its ChefJet Food 3D printer, and an alliance with Hershey.

Medical Modelling a leading name in VSP

Medical Modeling is a Golden, Colorado-based company, which is breaking new ground in the arena of 3D printing-centric personalized surgery and patient specific medical device solutions with an FDA-cleared manufacturing processes and global expertise. The company is a leading player in the field of virtual surgical planning and clinical transfer tools through 3D modelling and printing, which is a determining factor in reconstructive surgery.

Medical Modelling provides the service of Virtual Surgical Planning (VSP), an approach to personalize service that includes expertise in medical imaging, surgical simulation and additive manufacturing. Through this approach the surgeons can avail themselves of the most advanced toolbox for the most challenging head and neck surgical procedures.

On the deal, Medical Modelling President, Andy Christensen said, “We already use most of 3DS’ leading professional design-to-manufacturing tools including its Geomagic Freeform modelling software and haptic tools and advanced manufacturing Stereolithography and ColorJet Printing professional-grade 3D printers.” The executive added that the company is working in close collaboration with surgeons all around the world on a variety of patient cases. The deal with 3D Systems Corporation (NYSE:DDD) would help the company in getting distinctive platform and resources that could enhance overall patient outcomes.
