New Hope Given To iOS 10.3.3 Jailbreak

Updated on

Jailbreaking has lost a lot of popularity over the last few years but there is still a dedicated community working on new jailbreaking tools and, hopefully, getting closer and closer to an iOS 10.3.3. jailbreak. However, now that many users have updated to iOS 11, the hope of an iOS 10.3.3 jailbreak is fading fast. Luckily, a prominent member of the jailbreaking community has given that idea new hope.

Adam Donenfeld has been one of the most active members of the iOS jailbreaking community, especially recently. He revealed tools that would allow iOS 10.3 users to downgrade to iOS 10.2 should a new jailbreak come along. Now, his Tweets are gaining some attention in tech circles and, specifically, the jailbreaking community. A Twitter user asked Adam about an iOS 10.3.3 jailbreak and Adam gave a response that was closer to “yes” than “no.” Of course, there is some nuance in the answer. An iOS 10.3.3 jailbreak is not ready to go but Adam does suggest that he has been working toward that conclusion.

In some follow up Tweets Adam tries to slow down the excitement that he will be working on an iOS 10.3.3 jailbreak by telling users, “I never said I am going to work on a JB. I never said I wanted to do it now. I just said it is possible.”

The fact that a jailbreak is possible is the best news the community has had in awhile. Jailbreaking has seen a lot of setbacks in the past few years. There once was a time that iOS jailbreaking was an essential step in owning an iPhone if you wanted to do basic things like change your wallpaper. Now, Apple has incorporated many jailbroken features into iOS and worked more on their security to stop hackers from finding flaws in the operating system that allowed them to jailbreak devices. On top of that, a lot of people who were active in the jailbreaking community have taken jobs with security firms and tech companies. This “brain drain” has made the creation of new jailbreak tools even harder. With that said, people like Adam Donenfeld are still working hard to jailbreak devices for users who want complete control over their iPhone or iPad.

So, there you have it. There is no iOS 10.3.3 jailbreak… Yet. However, according to Adam Donenfeld; the potential is there. He has released tools in the past to help people working on jailbreaks and perhaps he has something more up his sleeve for release soon. If you have been holding out for an iOS 10.3.3 jailbreak then you will have to wait a little longer but it looks like there is new hope for you.
