When the Xiaomi Mi Mix was announced, it was one of the few bezel-less devices at the time. The design was a radical change from what we had come to expect from smartphone designs. Flash forward one year and the bezel-less design has become a trend in the smartphone industry. The Galaxy S8, LG G6, Galaxy Note 8, and iPhone 8 have all jumped onto the bezel-less bandwagon. Now, Xiaomi has planned another big event just one day before the iPhone 8 launch event.
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 launch is coming on September 11th, as the poster above shows. Clearly, Xiaomi wants to be on the minds of smartphone fans as Apple shows off their latest flagship device. The promotional poster was originally leaked on Chinese social media site, Weibo. The poster is actually quite interesting when you take a close look at the layout and design.
An outline of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is shown against the night sky. This bezel-less design is very similar to what we see in the original Mix Mix. However, a mountain obscures the bottom portion of the device. In the Xiaomi Mi Mix this is where you could find a small bottom bezel which held a home button. Perhaps at the Xiaomi Mix Mix 2 launch we will get to see a device that’s all display from edge to edge? That would certainly be a design that gets people talking. Clearly Xiaomi has something up their sleeve. Why else would they hide the bottom portion of the device in such a conspicuous way?
As for rumored specs, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 carries a lot of the same specs as other Android flagships that are on the market right now. Of course, we won’t know these specs for sure until the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 launch but most rumors are pointing to a Snapdragon 835 processor, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a 3,400mAh battery. Those are very similar specs to what we see in the Galaxy Note 8, for example. With a rumored price of $600, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is much easier for many to afford. However, availability and cellular band support may affect the device’s popularity in North America and Europe.
With the 10th anniversary of the iPhone coming this fall and the iPhone 8 expected to take the smartphone world by storm; it’s no surprise that Xiaomi is taking direct aim at Apple with their Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 launch event planned just one day prior.
