Galaxy S8 To Sport 8GB RAM; Plus Version To Have 6-Inch Screen

Updated on

A large number of Samsung fans have lost confidence in the brand following the Galaxy Note 7 disaster. The upcoming Galaxy S8 will be the company’s most important tool to regain consumer confidence. Samsung is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the phone delivers at all costs. Recent rumors suggest that the Galaxy S8 could feature a huge 8GB RAM.

No S-Pen stylus for the Plus version

Samsung has so far used 4GB RAM in its flagship smartphones. But noted tipster Ice Universe (via MySmartPrice) has learned from their sources that the Galaxy S8 will double the RAM to 8GB. Ice Universe also indicated that the device would feature Samsung’s UFS 2.1 flash storage. Previously, the S8 was rumored to pack 6GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage.

Another report from the Korean publication Naver claims that Samsung is also working on a 6-inch version of the phone, likely to be called Galaxy S8 Plus. The company had considered using an S-Pen stylus with the 6-inch model, but has decided to drop the functionality from the handset. The Plus version is said to have a bezel-less display with 90% screen-to-body ratio. It means the device won’t be too big to handle despite its bigger display.

Will there be a ‘Beast Mode’ in Galaxy S8?

The standard Galaxy S8 is expected to have a 5-inch Super AMOLED display. Samsung aims to increase the screen-to-body ratio by ditching the physical home button. The Galaxy S8 is rumored to have the fingerprint sensor and home functionality embedded in the display itself. Other rumored features include Snapdragon 835 or Exynos 8895 chipset built using 10nm process, and a USB Type-C port that will replace the 3.5mm headphone jack.

Samsung’s recent trademark filing in the European Union suggests that the Galaxy S8 may feature a dedicated ‘Beast Mode.’ Though not much is known about the Beast Mode, its name indicates that it could significantly boost performance of the device when needed. It makes sense for the Korean electronics giant to add Beast Mode to the Galaxy S8, considering the phone is expected to focus on multi-tasking and virtual reality.

Galaxy S8 to be unveiled in April

Samsung has traditionally unveiled its flagship Galaxy S line handsets at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in late February or early March. But it seems unlikely to happen in 2017. During a strategy meeting held at Samsung headquarters, the company executives decided to delay its release until April. The delay would help ensure the phone’s safety, while giving the marketing executives sufficient time to regain consumer confidence ahead of the Galaxy S8 launch.

According to Naver, the phone is expected to be unveiled at a special event in New York in April. Sensing an opportunity, Samsung’s arch-rival LG Electronics is reportedly planning to release its flagship LG G6 earlier than expected. ETNews reports that the LG G6 may hit the store shelves in the first half of March.
