BlackBerry 10 Users Get A Fix For Android Runtime Bug

Updated on

BlackBerry updated BB10 to version OS 10.3.2.2876 last month, but the update came with a bug that prevented users from removing unwanted Android apps from their phone. Now they have received an update to Android Runtime to fix the bug.

Android Runtime Bug

Prior to this update, when a user tries to uninstall an Android app, the icon is removed from the device’s home screen, but the app remains on the phone. BlackBerry’s update enables users to go to the source link. There they will find a section titled Resolution and will be required to navigate to the URL that is listed under that heading.

It is mandatory for users to use their BlackBerry browser to do this, and they cannot set it on Desktop mode. Users will not have to wait for the release of 10.3.3 to get rid of the bug. Once a user updates Android Runtime, he or she will be required to reboot the handset.

BlackBerry lagged far behind Android in terms of the number of apps, so to make up for this, the Canadian smartphone maker included Android Runtime in BB10. This made it possible for some Android apps to run on BB10, and the company hoped that this feature would help stop users who were leaving the platform for greener app stores.

When it did not work, the company produced the Android-powered Priv, but still there are a number of BB10 handsets that include Android Runtime, and the latest update is for these handsets.

WhatsApp updates BlackBerry 10 OS app

In related news, Facebook-owned messaging service WhatsApp rolled out an update for its BB 10 OS app with some new features. This update adds support for more Web client features such as Message info, recent emoji sync and more. It also brings support for Web link previews on outgoing messages.

The latest app version not only updates phone number organization on the contact information screen, but it also removes some issues that users faced during the message history backup process. At the same time, it includes a fix for connectivity issues via proxy servers along with miscellaneous fixes and updates. The updated app is available on the BlackBerry World app store for download.
