The best investors take a universal approach to making money and not entirely rely on viewing the world through a financial lens, said Gary Carmell, author of ‘The Philosophical Investor.’ Carmell added that there are historical parallels between the Federal Reserve’s response to the Great Depression period and the current low rate environment in the wake of the Great Recession. He said he expects Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen to maintain low rates due to worrying signs abroad despite domestic job gains and encouraging U.S. economic growth. Finally, Carmell said he expects the U.S. economy to ‘muddle through’ with slow growth.
