Apple iPhone 6 vs. Samsung Galaxy S5: Battle Of Ideas

Updated on

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) just released its latest iPhone models, the iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s, but that hasn’t stopped the Internet from running wild about its ideas for the company’s next smartphone, the iPhone 6. At the same time, Android fans are waiting for the release of the next premium smartphone on that platform, the Samsung Galaxy S5.

With the ideal forms of the next generation smartphones beginning to coalesce, it’s about time to do a comparison on how these fictional mobile phones would stack up against each other if they were released today. If both camps got exactly what they wanted out of a phone, it might be difficult for those on the fence to make the choice.

Samsung Galaxy S5 concept

One of the biggest criticisms of Samsung’s flagship in recent years has been the plastic casing the company uses. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has been congratulated for the premium feel of their phone, while Samsung has languished in plastic purgatory. One of the big rumors about the Galaxy S5 indicates that it will have an aluminum case for the first time.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is rumored to be come with a screen similar in size to that of the S4, but it may be flexible and utilize Samsung’s flexible screen technology, Yoam. The device is slated to come with 3 GB of RAM and a 16-megapixel smartphone camera sensor.

iPhone 6 concept

The concepts behind the iPhone 6 have a little less work behind them, because of the novelty of the iPhone 5s. There are, however, a lot more people looking for iPhone 6 rumors than there are people trying to figure out what the Galaxy S5 will look like.

The iPhone 6 rumors come equipped with years of hope Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has never managed to deliver on. Fans of the company are looking for edge to edge bezels and, as the image above shows, some are even looking for the touchscreen to spill over the sides.

Rumors also suggest that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will include a bigger screen in the iPhone 6, with some rumors suggesting it could hit 6 inches. The next iPhone will certainly come with a boosted processor and a new OS, but it seems like we’ll never see NFC in an iPhone.

iPhone 6 vs. Samsung Galaxy S5

The next iPhone and the next Samsung Galaxy smartphones will likely both be beautiful examples of the mobile devices, and it is difficult to predict which one would win given their release today. The inclusion of a flexible screen in the Samsung Galaxy S5 seems like science fiction, and wholly incompatible with an aluminum body design.

In terms of revolution, a flexible screen could change the entire nature of mobile devices if it could be worked well. The use of edge to edge screens is more aesthetic, and the use of a side display, as in the iPhone 6 concept seems less than useful. Other concepts for both phones will arrive in the months ahead, refining these designs, but we won’t really know until the devices are released.
