With Android Lollipop though, you don’t need to install any separate app to do this.
How to use your Nexus device as a flashlight without an app
The method of using your smartphone as a flashlight works flawlessly on Nexus devices. So without any further ado, let’s learn how it works.
Simply pull down the notification bar from the top with two swipes to expand the notification bar, or you can do it once with two fingers. In this quick settings menu, you will be able to see various options for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Airplane mode, Location, Flashlight, etc. Tap on Flashlight to turn on the flashlight instantly. You’ll now be able to see a bright LED flashlight on the back of your Nexus device. To turn it off, simply tap on it again.
So go ahead and try it out if you are on Android 5.0 Lollipop, and yes, don’t forget to uninstall the dedicated flashlight app that you’ve installed on your device because now you won’t need it. This is surely a small but much-needed addition to the Android OS.
