The edtech industry is experiencing a resurgence so far this year.

VC investment in US-based edtech startups is on pace to reach nearly $1.4 billion this year, a steep increase from last year’s levels and almost equal to those seen in 2015, which was a banner year for the sector.

The industry is ripe for fresh funding partly because it encompasses so many types of technology: Many companies that make educational software are using AI and machine learning, for example, and others are taking advantage of VR and AR to make products for the classroom. As those technologies become more and more built out, expect to see edtech companies becoming increasingly sophisticated and looking more attractive to investors.
