CNBC Scores Second Lowest Rated Business Day in 22 Years in Key Demo

FOX Business Network (FBN) scored its 10th month as the leader in business news, according to Nielsen Media Research. As the Dow Jones Industrial Average (Dow) broke new records, FBN’s coverage of the highly business-dominated news cycle saw a 26 percent advantage over rival CNBC, averaging 194,000 Business Day viewers compared to CNBC’s 154,000 viewers. Additionally, all of FBN’s core Business programs saw double digit growth compared to last year, while CNBC delivered its second lowest rated month ever in the 25-54 demo in Business Day viewers.

For the month of August, FBN delivered the top seven news programs on business television in total viewers, with Lou Dobbs’ eponymous show Lou Dobbs Tonight (7PM/ET) earning its 20th consecutive month as the leader in business news. Averaging 297,000 total viewers and 37,000 in the 25-54 demo, Dobbs outpaced all other business programs across the board, while Varney & Co., Countdown to the Closing Bell, CAVUTO Coast to Coast and The Intelligence Report with Trish Regan all continued to place in the top 10. Additionally, Stuart Varney’s market-open program Varney & Co, grew 35 percent over last year, averaging 243,000 total viewers, which beat CNBC’s Squawk on the Street/Squawk Alley competition for the 13th consecutive month.

While CNBC delivered its second lowest-rated Business Day in the key demo viewers in 22 years, all of FBN’s programs saw double digit gains over last August, with CAVUTO Coast to Coast (12-2PM/ET), Intelligence Report with Trish Regan (2PM/ET), Countdown to the Closing Bell with Liz Claman (3PM/ET) and After the Bell (4PM/ET) also besting their CNBC competition in total viewers for the third consecutive month. Additionally, FBN’s pre-market programs FBN AM (5AM/ET) and Mornings with Maria (6-9AM/ET) anchored by Maria Bartiromo, also saw gains in total viewers compared to last year.

FBN: 194,000 P2+ (up 40 percent), 23,000 A25-54 (up 35 percent)

CNBC: 154,000 P2+ (down 6 percent), 27,000 A25-54 (down 16 percent)

Total Viewers: Lou Dobbs Tonight (297,000), Varney & Co (243,000), Countdown to the Closing Bell (174,000), CAVUTO Coast to Coast (171,000), The Intelligence Report with Trish Regan (165,000), After the Bell (164,000), Risk & Reward (164,000)
