It is almost certain that the upcoming iPhone 7 and 7 Plus would arrive without the 3.5mm headphone jack. Apple is going to ditch it in favor of the Lightning port. The space freed up by the removal of the headphone jack will be occupied by a second speaker grille. It means users have to rely on Lightning EarPods or Bluetooth-enabled headphones.
Remote control in Lightning EarPods
According to BGR, the Cupertino company has filed a trademark for the name “AirPods.” It indicates that Apple could launch wireless EarPods with the iPhone 7. If Apple indeed launches wireless headphones, it may require users to shell out a little extra. Meanwhile, a video leaked by EverythingApplePro shows the Lightning EarPods the tech giant could ship with the iPhone 7.

Though we have seen press renders of what the Lightning EarPods would look like, this is the first time it’s been shown in a video. The headphones in the video look pretty similar to the current EarPods. The only difference is that it has a Lightning connector instead of the 3.5mm headphone jack. The user in the video also demonstrates the remote control of the Lightning EarPods.
iPhone 7 to ship with a Lightning to 3.5mm headphone adapter
Apple is rumored to ship the iPhone 7 with a free Lightning to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter to alleviate users’ concerns. It makes sense considering many iPhone users who upgrade to a new device still carry their older EarPods. Noted tipster Evan Blass reported a few days ago that Apple would start taking pre-orders for the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus on September 09, and launch the devices on September 16.
There are also speculations that Apple could name the upcoming device iPhone 6SE instead of iPhone 7 as it will retain the design elements of the iPhone 6S. The Cupertino company is saving major design overhauls for the next year’s iPhone 8 to mark the 10th anniversary of the iPhone. The iPhone 7 is expected to feature A10 processor and 32GB of base storage.
