Hedge Funds Post Returns Of -1.88 For August by Preqin

The Preqin All-Strategies Hedge Fund benchmark returned -1.88% for August, as market volatility saw most regions and strategies post negative returns. Returns for 2015 YTD have slipped to 1.96% overall, following the second consecutive month of negative performance. The strategies that saw the heaviest losses were equity strategies (-3.08% for the month), activist funds (-3.41%), and the Preqin Asia-Pacific benchmark (-3.68%).

  • Despite the negative performance in August, hedge funds still outperformed the S&P 500 which returned -6.26% through the month.
  • Macro and relative value strategies were part of a handful of benchmarks to post positive returns, with 0.59% and 0.13% respectively.
  • Of all geographical regions, funds focused on developed markets were the only ones to post positive average returns in August (0.66%).
