FATCA is an abomination.

At the Total Wealth Symposium, I recently heard it referred to as the Fear And Total Chaos Act and I don’t think there’s a more apt description. FATCA has created chaos in the banking and investing community around the globe and it has scared investors to death, convincing them that it is pretty much illegal to move your money offshore.

But you know what? It is not illegal to hold your money offshore or to invest offshore.

Fund Structures For More Efficient Taxation And “Doing Well While Doing Good”

Michael Carrillo Apex GroupTax time is still months away, but it's never too early to consider how fund structures impact your investments. Additionally, many people start looking for more ways to do good, including with their investments. In a recent interview with ValueWalk, Michael Carrillo of fund services provider Apex Group explained how most of the intellectual maneuvering Read More

What’s more, many of the opportunities that investors thought were closed to them because they’re Americans still exist.

Escape the Land of Confusion

Erika Nolan, CEO of 1291 Group of the Americas, pointed out a recent survey that revealed that 73% of respondents said that their No.1 concern was money — making it, protecting it, investing it, etc. And the current market environment is certainly not setting anyone’s mind at ease. She explained that in the current changing investment environment, it’s critical that we are able to adapt, be dynamic and be opportunistic if we hope to be successful.

In Erika’s presentation, she explained there are four steps to building your wealth:

  1. Grow your wealth through investment.
  2. Protect your assets.
  3. Minimize your tax obligation.
  4. Have a good estate plan.

She focused on the first step in her presentation — growing your wealth through investment — and gave an interesting overview of the market. She explained that the U.S. market is extremely expensive, with a Shiller price-to-earning (P/E) ratio of 24.7, compared to emerging markets’ ratio of 13.7 and developed Europe’s reading of 15.2. 1291 Group is not expecting an immediate crash, but company earnings will slow and profit margins will thin. As a result, she supplied three key areas investors should be focused on during the next 12 months and even gave a trade that would help to minimize volatility exposure. The Swiss Option

Daniel Zurbrügg, Managing Partner of Swiss Infinity Global Investment, explained that only 35% of global investment opportunities are in the U.S. market and that percentage is shrinking. By not investing outside the U.S., you are missing out on a huge number of opportunities.

Why should you consider global wealth management now?

  • Benefit from global investment opportunities
  • Protect your assets
  • Diversify banking counterparty risks
  • Reduce your exposure to the U.S. dollar
  • Get a global/big-picture view from global investment exposure.

Daniel explained that his group is currently tracking big-picture/global economic changes to identify risks and potential rewards. He doesn’t expect a huge crash but there is the potential for a correction in the market. Furthermore, he looks for precious metals, such as gold and silver, to be priced considerably higher in coming years.

It’s Not Over for Gold

Rob Vrijhof presenting.

Rob Vrijhof, President of WHVP, was the second Swiss investment adviser to present. He talked in depth about Switzerland and the fact that it continues to be a top destination for offshore asset protection. Switzerland has a high level of education and low unemployment. The country also has a high number of work hours and high productivity.

Some quick market thoughts he provided included:

  • After a promising start to 2015, uncertainties are arising. People in Europe are worried about the massive immigration from Northern Africa.
  • The Australian and New Zealand dollars could start seeing some growth in the near term.
  • The days of gold and silver strength are not over. He expects to see strength in precious metals return.

He closed his presentation with several interesting stock picks, which you can get by ordering our Total Wealth Symposium Defense Kit. That way you can watch all of Rob’s presentation as well as peruse his Powerpoint presentation at your leisure.
