FOX Business Network (FBN) continued its reign over CNBC, besting the network in Business Day and Total Day viewers during the heavily dominated financial news week of June 11th – June 15th, according to Nielsen Media Research. Surrounding the Federal Reserve’s decision to raise interest rates and the market reaction to the North Korean summit, FBN’s Business Day coverage saw a 28 percent advantage over rival CNBC with 192,000 total viewers compared to CNBC’s 152,000.
Additionally, despite CNBC’s highly promoted season five premiere of The Profit (Wednesdays, 10PM/ET), the debut only averaged 365,000 total viewers on June 12th, and failed to top Fox Business Network’s Lou Dobbs Tonight’s (7PM/ET) 377,000 total viewers high in the program ranker for the week. The series also failed to bolster CNBC in Total Day ratings, as FBN was up 9 percent in total viewers (153,000) over CNBC’s 140,000 for the week. CNBC’s widely marketed primetime has been delivering all-time ratings lows for 2018, with Staten Island Hustle and Jay Leno’s Garage all failing to deliver ratings despite their star power and massive promotional campaigns.
Marking 56 consecutive weeks as the most-watched market program on television, Varney & Co (weekdays, 9AM-12PM/ET) swept its CNBC competition with 245,000 total viewers compared to 160,000, and delivered the top-rated market program in the A25-54 demo with 36,000 viewers compared to 32,000. Additionally, all of Fox Business Network’s core Business Day programs ruled their timeslots in total viewers for the week.
Continuing as the overall leader in business news, Lou Dobbs Tonight was the number one news program in all of business television, averaging 342,000 total viewers, as well as the top-rated business program in the A25-54 demo with 42,000 viewers. Along with Lou Dobbs Tonight, Varney & Co (9AM- 12PM/ET), Countdown to the Closing Bell with Liz Claman (3-4PM/ET), After the Bell (4-5PM/ET),and The Evening Edit with Elizabeth MacDonald (5-6PM/ET) all ranked as the top five most-watched business programs for the week.
Additionally, Mornings with Maria (6-9AM/ET) anchored by Maria Bartiromo outpaced CNBC’s Squawk Box during the influential pre-market hours with 108,000 total viewers compared to 95,000, while FBN’s post-market programs The Evening Edit with Elizabeth MacDonald (5-6PM/ET) and Making Money with Charles Payne (6-7PM) both bested their CNBC competition in total viewers.
