Cleveland Clinic President & CEO Dr. Toby Cosgrove spoke with FOX Business Network’s (FBN) Liz Claman at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland about his concerns surrounding healthcare in the United States. Cosgrove said, “we clearly can’t just decrease the cost” of healthcare, but that there needs to be a change in the “way we deliver healthcare costs and we have to know what the rules of the game are going to be so we can plan that.”
Excerpts from the report are below.
On healthcare in the United States:
“Well I think all of us are trying to understand – in the United States, what the new opportunities are around reorganization and healthcare. And we think we clearly can’t just decrease the cost. We got to change the way we deliver healthcare costs and we have to know what the rules of the game are going to be so we can plan that.”
On working with Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO) CEO John Chambers and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT):
“We were talking about big data and how it is coming together and how we can begin to understand and use this to our advantage. If you take all the data in the world, 95% of it has been created in the last two years. So we have a tremendous opportunity to begin to analyze that data. And so what we think we need to do now is have a Chief Data Officer who spends all his time not looking at the IT and technology, but looking at how we begin to analyze that data.”
