Top 10 best investing podcasts: Learn from the masters

There is an overwhelming number of podcasts on investing. Even for someone like me who listens to a lot of podcasts, it is nearly impossible to cover all the good ones out there. Podcasts are a great way to learn from the experts, explore ideas, get inspired and improve your own investing strategies. Here we take a look at the top 10 best investing podcasts that I think provide great value.

These are the podcasts that I enjoy, and I believe you’ll enjoy too. You can listen to them while working out, cooking or sipping your morning coffee. Before diving into the list, I should tell you that each of these podcasts are for people who have at least a basic understanding of investing and the stock markets.

10- Invest Like the Best

Invest Like the Best host Patrick O’Shaughnessy discusses ideas, investing strategies, lessons, and stories with real-world achievers. Patrick and the guests discuss everything from private equity, quantitative investing, cryptocurrencies and entrepreneurship. Some of my favorite episodes are Jason Zweig & Morgan Housel (Episode 50), Chuck Akre (Episode 135), and Tim Urban (Episode 59).

9- Trend Following Radio with Michael Covel

Author Michael Covel’s Trend Following Radio podcast has guests like Daniel Kahneman, Steven Pinker, Barry Ritholtz, Annie Duke and more. When you discuss investing, ideas, entrepreneurship and decision-making with the best minds on the planet, your podcast deserves to be among the best. Trend Following Radio has clocked nearly 10 million downloads so far.

8- The Meb Faber Show

Meb Faber is the co-founder and chief investment officer of Cambria Investment Management. Meb invites top investment professionals to discuss the art and craft of investing in global equity, bond, and commodity markets. Meb’s podcast has more than 200 episodes. If someone wants to listen to just two out of those 200 episodes, I’d suggest William Bernstein (Episode 60) and Ed Thorp (Episode 39). Just mind-blowing stuff.

7- Capital Allocators

Ted Seides is the guy who lost his $1 million bet against billionaire Warren Buffett. The bet aside, his Capital Allocators podcast is among the best investing podcasts out there. He interviews money managers who oversee large pools of institutional capital. Some of the best episodes are the ones featuring Andrew Golden, Dan Ariely, and Paul Black.

6- The Investor’s Podcast – We Study Billionaires

Hosts Preston Pysh and Stig Brodersen interview and study billionaires to teach folks like us how we can apply their investing strategies to minimize risk and maximize returns. The podcast has topped more than 30 million downloads. Pysh and Brodersen delve inside the minds of the wealthy and try to deconstruct their secrets to success.

5- The Acquirers Podcast

Tobias Carlisle is the founder of Acquirers Funds. He invites hedge fund managers, microcap investors, activist investors, and private equity investors to uncover how to find undervalued stocks, manage risk, and deal with setbacks. My favorite episode is the one where Carlisle and forensic accounting expert Stephen Clapham discuss the signs of accounting shenanigans.

4- Business Wars

Hosted by award-winning journalist David Brown, Business Wars is a thrilling podcast about business rivalries. Every investor needs to understand what drives companies and their leaders in this fiercely competitive world. Amazon vs Walmart, Netflix vs Blockbuster, Ford vs Chevrolet, Nike vs Adidas, Facebook vs Snapchat are some of my favorite episodes.

3- Value Investing with Legends

Value Investing with Legends is a podcast from Columbia Business School. Professor Tano Santos interviews some of the world’s greatest investors to know their views on the investment industry, how the world of investing has evolved over time, and how they developed their own investment process. The guests include Michael Mauboussin, Leon Cooperman, David Abrams, and Tom Russo.

2- Masters in Business

Masters in Business is hosted by Ritholtz Wealth Management chairman Barry Ritholtz. He invites some of the most successful people in the world of business and finance to discuss ideas that shape the markets and business. It also explores the lessons, mistakes, and thought processes of, well, Masters in Business.

1- The Knowledge Project

Farnam Street’s The Knowledge Project is by far the best investing podcast out there, though it’s not just about investing. I’ve listened to every single episode of The Knowledge Project. Every. Single. Episode. Dedicated to mastering the best of what others have already figured out, the podcast features guests from a variety of different fields. Shane discusses mental models, decision making, parenting, habits, risks, and much more with the sharpest minds in the world. My favorite episodes are Cracking the Code of Love, The Angel Philosopher, Putting Your Intuition on Ice, and Luck, Risk and Avoiding Losers.
