BBM is finally here, at least in the Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG)’s Play Store and Apple’s App Store, but there’s a catch (Oh, why?) – you can install the app right now but you won’t be able to start using it, as BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB) has created a wait list for those interested in signing up for a new BBM account. According to the company, this is to handle the high demand of people who want to start using the app.

BBM apps for Android, iPhone, iPad available

The app is finally available a month after its planned launch date, but even after launching it, we – the users – have to get in line and wait to try it out.

But if you’re previously registered on BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) (TSE:BB)’s site to get informed about the app’s release, then you’re in luck. You’ll be able to start using BBM right away without having to wait in line. You simply have to enter the same email address that you’ve registered with on the website. If you didn’t register earlier, then you’ll need to wait for the invite – unless you try out workaround below!

There’s a very simple workaround to bypass the waiting list. After downloading and installing the app, launch it. Enter your email address, click Next and then force close it.

On iOS 7, this can be done by tapping your home button twice and swiping the app away. On Android, bring the multitasking menu and swipe the app away, or you can also go to Settings > Apps > BBM and stop the app from there.

Once the app has been closed, launch the app again and then create a new account. You’ll now be able to get a unique PIN which you can use to invite your friends.

While this method works great for many, some users have also reported that it did not work for them. It’s possible that BlackBerry could fix this loophole at any moment, so you should try out this method right away.
