The three men drove the truck to a secluded area and raped her. The woman had gone to visit her friend in the village of Vashisht.

No Arrest In American Woman’s Rape Case

After about two hours, she was dumped on a highway. The highway patrol-men noticed her at a bus stop where she was screaming for help. The patrol-men took her to Manali police station where authorities filed a case of rape and abduction at around 4:30 a.m. As of Tuesday afternoon, no arrests have been made.

Indian Law And The American Woman

The police superintendent Vinod Kumar Dhawan said that the lady has undergone medical examination. She didn’t suffer serious injuries, he added. The laws in India prohibit naming of a rape victim without permission of the victim or family members. The horrendous cruelty happened at night, so she couldn’t read the vehicle number. The police have issued alerts and put up roadblocks everywhere to check any truck leaving the district.

U.S. Embassy In India Aware Of The Case

The U.S. embassy in Delhi said it was aware of the incident and was in constant touch with authorities in Manali. Today’s attack comes less than three months after a Swiss tourist was allegedly gang-raped in March in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. Authorities have arrested six men in that case, and they are under trial.

In the same month of March, a British woman jumped out of her hotel room balcony to escape from the hotel’s owner. She was fearing a sexual attack after the hotel owner forcefully tried to enter her room. She was in India to visit the Taj Mahal.

The rising cases of sexual assaults have sparked public protests across the country, demanding stricter laws and better protection for women. Over the past few months, the Indian government has passed a law to increase prison terms for rape, and the death penalty in the case of a victim’s death or coma.
