Steve Madden Partners With Voto Latino For Voter Registration Campaign

Updated on

New York, NY – After announcing a partnership with Voto Latino in September, Steve Madden is kicking off its 2020 voter registration campaign ahead of November’s presidential election. From January 13th to March 13th, 81 retail and select outlet Steve Madden locations will participate. In keeping with the brand’s mission of helping its customers express themselves, this partnership provides shoppers an opportunity to make sure their voices are heard in our democracy.

“Based on my experiences, I’ve come to recognize how precious the right to vote is. The right to vote is everything in a democracy. I’m proud to be able to partner with Voto Latino. I think it is the noblest endeavor to aid in people coming out to vote, regardless of the way they will pull the lever. Dios bendiga a América,” said Steve Madden, Founder, Creative & Design Chief of Steve Madden.

This year marks the first time in history that millennials will overtake baby boomers by approximately 12 million eligible voters. Powered with this information, Steve Madden and Voto Latino are aligned in their mission to educate and empower young people to register and turn out to the polls. Both recognize young people’s agency and impact and are seeking an effective way to engage them.

Steve Madden and voter registration

“Never in recent history has participating in our democracy been seen as so cool and important. In 2018, for the first time in 100 years, we saw historic participation at the voting booth. And for the first time, young voters came and flexed their power, making up 1 out of every 5 voters,” said Maria Teresa Kumar, President and CEO of Voto Latino. “Although 24% of all voters last year were first time voters, a voter registration gap remains with roughly 12 million unregistered young people. Partnering with Steve Madden stores lets us meet them where they are to help close that gap. And, it allows young people to take the reins to build their future.”

Steve Madden employees across the country will encourage customers to register with a unique text code that will be displayed in participating store locations. Interested customers will text the code using their mobile devices, which will send them to a secure, online voter registration page powered by Voto Latino. Newly registered voters can then grab an “I registered” sticker, take a selfie and post it using #GenSteveVotes for a chance to be featured on @stevemadden social.

For those who do not plan to visit a retail location, www.stevemadden.com will also feature a secure registration link.
