Jessica Cisneros nears $1 million raised in bid to defeat Rep. Henry Cuellar

LAREDO, TX – Today, Jessica Cisneros, candidate for Congress in Texas’s 28th district, announced that she raised over $513000 in the final quarter of 2019. This brings the campaign’s total fundraising to over $978,000 to date. Cisneros is challenging 15-year incumbent Congressman Henry Cuellar in the March 3 Democratic primary.

“Since our campaign launched in June, we’ve proven time and time again that we have the resources we need to compete against an entrenched incumbent without having to take a dime from corporate PACs,” said Cisneros. “I’m proud of the grassroots movement we’re building in South Texas after over a decade of absentee leadership.”

Between October and December, Cisneros received nearly 14,000 individual contributions, bringing her to a total of 28,200 contributions from over 18,000 individuals and an average contribution of $34 this cycle. Last quarter, only 1.18% of Rep. Cuellar’s contributions came from small-dollar donors and nearly half came from PACs.

It has been over a month since Jessica Cisneros challenged Rep. Cuellar to a series of four in-person, town hall-style debates across Texas’ 28th district. The Cuellar campaign has refused to debate, saying, “It's not a no so much as it's not even a consideration. She is not a serious candidate."

"We’re running a serious race to bring true representation to Texas’ 28th district,” continued Cisneros. “We wish our opponent took his constituents seriously enough to agree to actually meet them face-to-face."
