Updated on

The iPhone 8 Plus vs. Galaxy Note 8 is a fierce competition between the cameras of two of the world’s most-anticipated phones for this year. Read on to see how they perform in real-time.

The iPhone 8 finally came out along with the Apple Watch Series 3, and while the vast majority of people are waiting for the arrival of the iPhone X, there are still people who might find joy in using the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. On the other side, Samsung brought the Note series back with the Galaxy Note 8. Both phones were equipped with top-notch components to ensure flawless performance. The iPhone 8 Plus features a full HD Retina display, while Samsung takes pride in the Galaxy Note 8’s Super AMOLED display. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor also made an appearance on the Galaxy Note 8. On the other hand, Apple integrated its A11 Bionic chip into the iPhone 8 Plus. There are many more functions to discuss, although in this article, we are going to tackle the camera performance of both models.

Tom’s Guide ran an iPhone 8 Plus vs. Galaxy Note 8 camera competition. The site pitted the flagship phones against one another and tested their camera capabilities in different profiles, modes and and environments. Based on the images provided in those articles, we can see that the iPhone 8 has an accurate, detailed camera, as expected. Unfortunately, despite our high expectations, we can’t say the same for the Galaxy Note 8.

Let’s check out some of the comparisons together.

Both phones feature dual-lens cameras (wide-angle and telephoto) with 12MP sensors paired with a dual-LED flash on the Note 8 and quad-LED True Tone flash on the iPhone 8 Plus. There are also optical image stabilization and different modes such as portrait mode and many more. Take a look below to see how the cameras behave in different environments.

It seems that the Galaxy Note 8 made its way to the top and is more suitable for indoor photos. The picture looks sharp, vivid, and detailed. However, like in the other rounds featured on Tom’s Guide, the iPhone 8 seems to handle the lighting in the picture better. Although the Note 8 can’t match the color vibrancy of the iPhone 8 Plus, it is still the winner of this round.

As mentioned above, both devices feature dual lenses, which allow you to smartly put the focus on the object of the portrait instead of the background, thanks to the effect called Portrait mode (iPhone 8 Plus) and Live Focus (Galaxy Note 8).

The Galaxy’s mode is more versatile and gives more freedom to the user when snapping a photo. Despite having only one setting, the iPhone 8 Plus nailed it, thanks to the lighting effects that you can add after taking a picture. If you take a good look at the subject, you will see that the iPhone 8 Plus gave a more realistic and natural picture, while the Note 8’s image seems kind of blurry and dim.

Conclusion

You don’t have to be a camera expert to figure out that the iPhone 8 Plus took the crown from the Galaxy Note 8 in the iPhone 8 Plus vs. Galaxy Note 8 competition. It is slightly disappointing to see that the long-anticipated phone couldn’t offer more camera-wise. Still, it has its own perks, especially in the Live Focus mode and indoor.

Both phones are available right now. We have yet to see how the Galaxy Note 8 stands up to other phones in terms of the camera. What do you think about the Galaxy Note 8’s and iPhone 8 Pluss camera capabilities? Let us know in the comments.
