iPhone 8 ‘Decade Edition’ Could Be The Name Of Apple’s Next Flagship

Updated on

With the rumor mill on overdrive about an upcoming anniversary edition handset from Apple. One that had been widely tipped to be called iPhone 8, there’s now a new name contender, Decade Edition. Coming via a leak posted via Slashleaks, it shows a screen protector carrying this rather unusual name.

iPhone Decade Edition

What can we say, this one one of many names we’ve seen touted for the iPhone 8. Previously there was iPhone X, 10, and Ultra, however, the consensus has stuck with iPhone 8. There’s no doubt that Apple’s continued silence on the matter creates a breeding ground for those with ideas. But, can you really see an iPhone Decade Edition becoming a reality?

Obviously, there’s no way to know for sure, and this is the first time we’ve seen the next iPhone be given this name. As for the accessory retailer that posted it on SlashLeaks, it say’s:

“The OLED-based phone may be marketed under the Decade Edition moniker.”

Is there any proof provided? No, and we have our doubts as to why Apple would share secretive information with an accessories manufacturer. When, it seems as though no one else, not even industry insiders, and analysts like Ming-Chi Kuo have been informed. Of course, there is some room for the Decade Edition to become a reality, after all, it wouldn’t be the first ‘Edition’ device. In the past, we’ve seen Apple add the word Edition, to the name of gold products. One of which was the Apple Watch Edition’.

Anniversarry iPhone

Whatever the final name, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Decade Edition, or just Decade Edition. What’s clear is that the jury’s in and almost everyone agrees Apple will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the iPhone. This new name picks on on this idea and as you can see in the tweet above has the name emblazoned on the screen protector. Although, there is an eight, which could indicate that iPhone 8 Decade Edition is the more likely name.

Well, that is if the image above is accurate and not just a render created by someone looking for attention. What we now for sure, is that an iPhone will release in September, but probably not go on sale until October. Why? That’s due to the sheer amount of components Apple has ordered from suppliers, click the link above to find out more.

Going back to the name, it’s likely that we could be in for a naming surprise this year, although there no way of really knowing. That being said, the most important thing for Apple fans beyond the name is the handset itself. Surely, a 10th-anniversary device will shake up that boring design we’ve been stuck with, and upgrade the display?
