Mac-Scented Candle Sells Out After Becoming Online Sensation

Apple accessories company Twelve South came up with the idea of a Mac-scented candle, but weren’t prepared for how popular it would prove to be.

Nothing lasts forever, so goes the old saying. The phrase may be used to comfort a heartbroken friend, but it also applies to the fresh smell of an Apple Mac computer. With that in mind, Twelve South made a Mac-scented candle for those who want to relive the day that they opened their new pride and joy.

The candle will burn for up to 55 hours, keeping your home fragrant with the smell of a new Mac. Twelve South has captured the scent of a newly-opened Mac in a scented candle, and demand has been through the roof.

Just two hours after launching online, the candle was sold out. The company is more used to making cases and stands for Apple products, but recently released a new line including the candle.

The “New Mac Soy Candle” is part of a new range of accessories, and sold for $24. Twelve South’s Mac-scented candle is “hand poured” in Charleston, South Carolina, before shipping around the country.

An announcement from the company revealed that the candle would burn for up to 55 hours. This is much longer than the new Mac smell normally lasts.

“If you think you’ve seen everything, here’s a new one,” Twelve South wrote in its announcement. “Ever open up a new Mac box and smell it? (or is that just us?)

“We took that scent – and literally bottled it. Meet the New Mac Soy Candle. No kidding. It’s kind of awesome.”

According to the company, the Mac-scented candle has notes of peach, mint, basil, sage and mandarin. It could come as a welcome stopgap for those interested in buying a real Mac.

Many customers have been waiting for months for Apple to update its Mac computer range. So far there has been no announcement on a refresh, but if you’re getting withdrawal symptoms from new Mac smell, you can always get one of the candles.
