BlackBerry has many loyal customers, and one of them is Kim Kardashian West, who is quite popular with her devotion to physical keyboards on smartphones. Kardashian and President Obama are probably the highest-profile BlackBerry users left in the world, but it appears she is close to abandoning the brand.
Kardashian close to giving up on BlackBerry
Kardashian does not use a Priv, the first Android phone by BlackBerry, or the innovative square-shaped Passport, but rather, she uses the Bold.
At Re/code’s 2014 Code/Mobile conference, Kardashian said, “It’s my heart and soul, I love it and I’ll never get rid of it.”
She does have an iPhone but uses it only for photos. When she wants to write an email fast, she likes having the keyboard that comes on the BlackBerry Bold, and since the model is not available in stores anymore, she buys them on eBay.
“It’s a BlackBerry Bold. And I like to have three in my room that I line up in case they break,” said Kardashian previously.
However, it appears that the physical keyboard days are coming to an end despite the best attempts by Kardashian at hoarding. Kardashian admitted in a new interview with Re/code’s Kara Swisher that it is getting difficult for her to track down the Bold model she likes. Kardashian admitted that she is close to giving it up.
“I thought I would be BlackBerry ’til I die. I do still love my buttons, but you know, I think eBay has almost run out of this model… I think there’s been a few more models since then which I didn’t like as much, and I feel like I’m so close to just having the iPhone 6S,” she said.
Not many Bolds left on eBay
If you take a quick peek at the various BlackBerry Bold listings on eBay, it becomes clear that Kardashian is not joking. The number is declining, says The Verge. It would be quite entertaining to see oneself in a bidding war over a cellphone with Kardashian, who is one of the most popular people in the world.
Kardashian probably would not be happy without her physical keyboard smartphone, and one can imagine her shedding tears after looking at her stack of remaining BlackBerry Bolds. Kim’s obsession with the physical keyboard is not explanatory, and there is no alternative to her Bold.
