Gun Violence: Biggest Mass Shootings In The US In Recent Years

On Wednesday, 14 people died and at least 17 were seriously injured when three people opened fire at a social services agency in San Bernardino. Was it an isolated incidence of gun violence? No. Records show that mass shootings occur at least once every day in the United States. Mass shootings are those that leave at least four people wounded or dead.

 

462 killed in mass shootings this year

The databases indicate that at least 354 such incidents have taken in 220 cities across the US since January 2015. Most of these shootings occurred on streets or in public settings. A total of 462 people have been killed and another 1,314 have been injured in such shootings this year so far. Reuters has put together a list of the worst mass shooting incidents in the US in recent years.

1- Planned Parenthood, Nov.27, 2015

Last week, a gunman stormed into a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado, killing three and wounding another nine. The gunman was later arrested.

2- Oregon College, Oct.1, 2015

A gunman opened fire on the campus of Umpqua Community College. At least nine people were killed and seven others were injured before police shot the gunman to death.

3- TV journalists in Virginia, Aug.26, 2015

A TV reporter and photographer were shot to death during a live interview in Moneta, Virginia. The killer was a former “disgruntled employee” of the same television station WDBJ 7. The gunman later killed himself hours after shooting as police pursued him.

4- Charleston Church, June 17, 2015

In what was described as a racist attack, a white supremacist murdered nine black Churchgoers during a Bible study session in a predominantly black Church in South Carolina. The suspect is awaiting trial.

5- Waco, Texas, May 17, 2015

Rival biker gangs killed nine and left at least 18 others injured in Texas. Police officers arrested 177 people on charges of engaging in organized crime.

6- Bell, Florida, Sept.18, 2014

Last year, a grandfather in Bell, Florida, kills his daughter and six grandchildren before shooting himself.

7- Washington Navy Yard, Sept.16, 2013

An ex-Navy reservist that was working as a government contractor goes on a shooting spree at the Washington Navy Yard. The gunman killed 12 and injured another 8 before being killed by police.

8- Hialeah, Florida, July 26, 2013

A man opens fire at an apartment complex, killing six people. The gunman was killed by police.
