In a worrying incident, a footage has emerged that shows a truck carrying nuclear warhead getting rear-ended by its own armed escort vehicle in the United States. The nuclear device loaded onto the truck was being transported on the back of a truck surrounded by heavily armored vehicles along a busy motorway. Eyewitnesses said there were several helicopters flying overhead as the US Army and a police escort moved the sensitive warhead near Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana.
Fortunately, no one was hurt
The film shows that as the convoy moved along, the truck carrying the nuclear warhead brakes, that’s when one of the armed escort vehicles rear-ends it in an embarrassing slip-up. No one was hurt in the incident, and the convoy trundled on its route as if nothing had happened. Incidents related to nuclear warheads must be taken seriously. That’s why the US government has assigned a code for each type of nuclear incident, depending on their importance.

Incidents involving transportation of nuclear weapons are code named “Brent Spear.” The person recording the video said the police tried to stop him from capturing the footage of the convoy. More serious incidents are code named “Arrow,” while critical issues are dubbed “Pinnacle.” During the Cuban missile crisis, President Kennedy had called Malmstrom Air Force Base America’s “ace in the hole.”
It’s not the first nuclear-related incident in the US
It’s not the first time such an incident has occurred in the United States. In 1996, a truck transporting two nuclear warheads flipped in an ice storm in Nebraska. A few years later in 2003, two similar incidents occurred during transportation of nuclear weapons in Montana and Tennessee.
Meanwhile, NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg said that the Western military alliance must step up efforts to counter Russian aggression in Europe. Moscow’s military buildup from Mediterranean to the Baltic could allow it to capture key areas in the event of crisis. NATO is conducting its biggest military exercises in 13 years in Europe, sending a clear message to Russia.
