The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 has the best smartphone display, according to a report from DisplayMate. The report involved a round of lab tests comparing the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ phones. Raymond Soinera, president for DisplayMate, noted that both phones had solid display performance. The former features a 5.7-inch Quad HD 2,560 x 1,440 pixel display, while the latter device features the same specs and wrap-around display. The Galaxy Note 5 managed to score a little higher than the Edge+.

The Galaxy Note 5 features greater screen visibility, a higher level of peak brightness, and improved readability in high ambient light. Ambient lighting primarily refers to light surrounding an object, and higher ambient lighting usually reflects on the screen, creating a washed-out image. Another perk with the Galaxy Note 5 is better power efficiency, which uses less battery juice to provide better screen quality. The device also got points for the best color accuracy and showing the most stunning images.
The Galaxy S6 Edge+ is best known for its curved display. Soinera believes curved displays on smartphones could become a bigger trend in the future because the design reduces reflections and creates better readability.
OLED display provides better screen resolution
It should be noted that both phones utilize OLED displays instead of LCDs. Soinera commends Samsung for improving peak brightness and performance under ambient lighting without resorting to increasing resolution. Many other smartphone makers tend to up the number of pixels per inch to improve screen resolution. He suggested that more companies should follow Samsung’s route.
The South Korean tech giant has been struggling in the smartphone market for quite some time. Samsung had dropped for the seventh straight time by the end of the June quarter. The last major smartphone launch for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge failed to boost sinking consumer sales.
