Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) is apparently detaching document and sheet editing from the Google Drive app, according to the reports from Android Police. If a user wants to edit the files then he or she will be instructed to install the separate Docs or Sheets app. After the installation, editing the files will be as simple as it used to be.
Easy for Google, not for users
Now, since the app has been separated from the drive, it will be easier for Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) to make changes in the Docs and Sheets apps without having to launch an update for the Google Drive every time. Also, it is simpler to use and understand as Drive is for cloud storage and file management, Docs is for document editing, Sheet is for spreadsheets and Slides app would be for presentations and for doodling and writing notes.

However, users are, as of now, finding it strange and complicated to work on a changed Drive with various added features, according to Warner Crocker of GottaBeMobile. Crocker said that Google Drive app will now show a document that has been saved from Microsoft Word, Excel or Macbook Pro. All of the documents can be opened and viewed.
“But they do not show up in either Google Drive or Google Sheets, unlike Word and Excel documents that were stored in my Google Drive prior to these new stand alone Apps and the Google Drive update,” says Crocker, and added that it is just like new documents were created on another non-iOS device and ported somehow.
New features added
Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Drive will also have a new security pass-code locking feature through which a user can secure the contents of the Drive app with a four digit key. The same password will also open the Drive in every device if Google Drive is installed on it. Users also have an option to use a different key for different devices.
One of the most important new features introduced by Google for Drive is offline support. This implies that the users will now be able to create and edit files even when their smart phone and tablet is connected to the internet. Earlier, users could only view the files in the offline mode and could not perform any other actions.
