IFTTT, which stands for If This Then That, was launched for iOS some time back, and now it has finally came to the Android platform. For those who don’t know, IFTTT connects various services and web apps to automate various tasks.

It works on the channel and recipes funda. Channels are services like Gmail, Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) and Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR), as well as devices like Philips Hue, Belkin WeMo, and UP by Jawbone. Recipes are basically connections between two channels that unlock entirely new ways for your services and devices to communicate with each other.
With the release of IFTTT for Android, it brings many different triggers and features to the table. Since Android is open source, compared to the closed source iOS, users will be able to take full advantage of the service. iPhone users have had the IFTTT app since last summer, but it is not of much help as iOS is restricted in many ways.The app definitely opens up new ways to do more.
Some of the recipes you can try out on the IFTTT Android app are: log your phone calls, automatically backup text messages to Dropbox or Google Drive, set your latest Instagram photo as your device’s wallpaper, backup all photos on your device to Google Drive, etc. In fact, there’s also a recipe that will silence your phone when you connect to your office WiFi; now isn’t this smart? The app also sends push alerts to your device.
