Apple’s Angela Ahrendts To Become Dame Of The British Empire

Updated on

Outgoing Burberry Group plc (LON:BRBY) (OTCMKTS:BURBY) CEO Angela Ahrendts is going to be very busy this month. As if resigning her chief executive position at Burberry’s and signing on as an SVP with Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) isn’t enough, according to the Daily Mail, the frenetic Ahrendts will become a Dame of the British Empire in a low key ceremony later today.

Dame of the British Empire ceremony

Angela Ahrendts is being honored for her contributions to business and reviving the Burberry brand.  However, the Queen will reportedly not be in attendance at the ceremony (although she personally approved the appointment), and the government’s business secretary Vince Cable will officiate.

According to the Daily Mail, “Mr Cable will pay tribute to the mother of three, from Indiana, describing her as a ‘landmark figure in business’ and a ‘powerful role model to the next generation of young British talent.’”

He will say: “She has revitalised this iconic British brand with flair and cutting edge innovation, allied with sound commercial acumen.”

Angela Ahrendts leaving Burberry, joining Apple this month

According to Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s original statement back in October of last year, Ahrendts will leave Burberry and join Apple this “spring” to become a senior vice president of Retail and Online Stores. However, The Mail article stated that Ahrendts will join Apple later this month. She is to be replaced by top Burberry designer Christopher Bailey. Angela Ahrendts joined the Burberry management team in 2006.

As of Monday, however, Angela Ahrendts remains listed as CEO on the Burberry Group plc (LON:BRBY) (OTCMKTS:BURBY)’s executive page, and is not yet listed on Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s leadership page.
