John Bader’s Halcyon Buys Virgin Media, Arbitron, Sprint, SemGroup

Halcyon Asset Management, the investment management firm founded by John Bader, who also serves as chairman and chief investment officer, recently submitted its 13f filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission for the first quarter of fiscal 2013. Based on its filing, the multi-strategy hedge fund showed that its portfolio has a market value of more than $551.61 million.

During the first quarter this year, Halcyon Asset Management purchased 55 new equities and its top 10 stockholdings account for 64 percent of its portfolio.

Its portfolio showed that its top five acquisitions during the March quarter include Virgin Media, Inc. (NASDAQ:VMED), Arbitron Inc. (NYSE:ARB), SemGroup Corp (NYSE:SEMG), Sprint Nextel Corporation (NYSE:S), and Kinder Morgan Inc, (NYSE:KMI) Warrants.

The investment management firm purchased 1,468,121 shares of Virgin Media, Inc. (NASDAQ:VMED) with more than $71.89 million market value. The stock accounts for 13.03 percent and it is the largest stockholding in its portfolio. Halcyon Asset Management owns a 9.8 percent stake or 1,162,946 million shares of Arbitron Inc. (NYSE:ARB) worth over $54.507. Its 8.97 percent stake or 957,000 shares of SemGroup Corp (NYSE:SEMG) is worth more than $49.49 million, and a 7.61 percent stake or 6,755, 811 shares of Sprint Nextel Corporation (NYSE:S) has a market value of more than $41.95 million,

Halcyon Asset Management also owns a 7.25 percent stake or 7,777, 558 shares of Kinder Morgan Inc (NYSE:KMI) Warrants worth approximately $39.97 million and 500,000 shares of General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) Warrants worth over $5.89 million. The investment management firm also owns 10,000 shares of (PUT) Kinder Morgan and 320,702 shares of General Motors Company (NYSE:GM).

(NYSE:BKD) 1,345, 564 shares worth over $37.51 million, DineEquity Inc (NYSE:DIN) 563, 690 shares worth more than $38.77 million, Lamar Advertising Co (NASDAQ:LAMR) 528.076 shares worth approximately $25.65 million, and Life Technologies Corp (NASDAQ:LIFE) 200,000 shares with more than $12.92 million market value.

In addition, the investment management firm owns 45,000 shares of The Blackstone Group (NYSE:BX), 40,000 shares of CIT Group Inc. (NYSE:CIT), 238,684 shares of Cymer, Inc (NASDAQ:CYMI), 50,700 shares of Devon Energy Corporation (NYSE:DVN), 126,940 shares of Iron Mountain Incorporated (NYSE:IRM), and 265,000 shares of Halcon Resources Corp (NYSE:HK).
