It may seem that it was an easy win for Samsung, and that’s because the iPhone 5 and Lumia 920 were not in the competition. But, the fact that Samsung Galaxy S 3 is a powerhouse with a quad-core processor, 4.8-inch Super AMOLED HD screen, and ICS, cannot be denied.
Moving towards the tablets, the New iPad took the first place, and has become the “Tablet of the year”, while Google’s Nexus 7 came second. The 7-inch market has become quite popular, because of affordable pricing, performance, quality, and design. The competition will become harder for Apple, with the launch of Microsoft’s Surface and other Android based tablets entering in the market.
Other runner-ups in the tablet section are the Asus Transformer Prime, Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and the Sony Tablet S. All three being the Android tablets.
Samsung has won the “Manufacturer of the Year” award for its range of products like Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Tabs, etc. The “Most innovative device” award goes to Samsung Galaxy Note, the product that’s called as “phablet”.
Best Design award went to the Nokia Lumia 800, while the Sony Xperia U was voted best value. The best camera phone is Nokia 808 PureView and the best video phone is HTC One X. Best handset for social networking is HTC One X.
So this year it’s all Samsung and Apple capturing the smartphone market. Let’s see what the next year holds for us.
