Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is ready to battle search giant Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG). The tech company officially launched their “Bing It On” campaign on Thursday. This campaign allows users to vote for the search results you think are better: either Google or Bing.
Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) summed up the reason why they launched the campaign in a blog post, “Our mission is to show people it’s time to break the ‘Google habit’ and that Bing has reached a quality level that will make it easy to switch.”
Users can compare and vote on bingiton.com.
According to some research done by PC Magazine, the results are subjective. When they searched themselves on Bingiton.com, they found that Google’s results were better, as they came up with the official website, their Wikipedia page, and three reviews of the magazine/website as results. Bing pulled up the official website, as well as competitor website and reviews.
The comparison of search results for Nokia Lumia was similar, as both search engines showed recent news stories about the product, as well as links to the official webpage. Bing’s results also included videos and photos of the Lumia; Google’s results featured a shopping page.
Microsoft also showed results from an independent research firm that revealed “people preferred Bing web search results nearly 2:1 over Google in blind comparison tests.”
The search company also claims that the recent months show that Bing’s search results are better.
It’s good to know that Bing is out there promoting their website as a better alternative to Google. Sometimes promotion makes all the difference, especially if you’re competing with a top competitor. I think Bing is on the right track. Although the website has been around for a few years now, I think that people still forget about it. Advertising campaigns, like this one, should hopefully remind other people about their search engine.
