iPhone X vs Google Pixel 2 XL vs. Galaxy Note 8: The Bezel Comparison

Updated on

New smartphones with bezel-less screens are one of the biggest highlights of 2017. In this article, we are going to make a bezel comparison between the iPhone X, Pixel 2 XL, Note 8 and other major flagships.

The year is slowly, yet steadily coming to an end, and so are the new smartphones releases. After Google’s big event about two weeks ago, we are eagerly anticipating the release of the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL and Apple’s iPhone X. Many of the smartphones that have been released already this year, such as Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and Note 8, featured bezel-less or near-bezel-less screens, which undoubtedly leads some to the conclusion that this year is the year of the disappearing bezel. The death of the bezels seems inevitable, so check out this bezel comparison.

Aside from the notch located at the top of the smartphone, there are no other bezels on Apple’s iPhone X. The TrueDepth camera is tucked into the notch, but that’s where the bezels end on iPhone X. Aside from the iPhone X, other smartphones featuring thin bezels include the Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy Note 8, and LG V30.

Michael Kukielka, a Twitter user and a gadget reviewer, published an image which shows the bezel size of most of 2017’s flagships, including the iPhone X, Samsung Galaxy Note 8, LG V30, Huawei Mate 10 and Google Pixel 2 XL.

This image can make things easier for you if you are looking for thin bezels and you can’t decide which smartphone is the right one for you. The Huawei Mate 10 and Google Pixel 2 XL still feature thin bezels, while the Galaxy Note 8 and LG V30 aim to reduce them. Still, it is the upcoming iPhone X taking all the credit for entirely eliminating the bezels except for the notch for the TrueDepth camera system.

I found this image to be quite intriguing.

After his tweeted image of the near-bezel-less smartphones emerged on Reddit too, Redditor myaltimateform added one more smartphone to the image, the Essential Phone, which still has a line of bezel on the bottom while featuring only the camera notch at the top. When you compare all the phones in the images, it is still Apple’s iPhone X taking the bezel-less award.

The Mi Mix 2, unfortunately, wasn’t showed among these smartphones. However, this smartphone also features thinner bezels, although it also has a “chin.”

Of the other phones, the Google Pixel 2 XL features the thickest bezels with a “large forehead and a chin.” Nevertheless, Google probably plans to make them thinner in the Pixel 2 successors. After all, it is believed that eventually, it won’t just be flagships but all smartphones adapting to the new design.

Although these images probably won’t directly affect your decision about whether you should spring for the iPhone X or another smartphone with thicker bezels, it could help you see whether you are more comfortable with a smartphone that is all-screen or not.

Do you like that this year’s smartphones feature more screen and less bezel? Which of the 2017 smartphones should be the top bezel-less flagship? Share your thoughts about this bezel comparison in the comments.
