Winning entries will be selected by the Brandes Institute Advisory Board. In addition to $15,000, the winning author will receive consideration for publication in one of the Institutional Investor Journals, quarterly publications focusing on global finance and investment themes.

The deadline for submissions is June 29, 2017. All papers must be submitted to [email protected].

Research papers, which must include an abstract that summarizes the issue, methodology and solution in 500 words or fewer, should focus on any of the following topics:

  • Benjamin Graham-based principles solving a current problem for long-only equity investors.
  • Behavioral biases when investing and practical approaches to counter—or exploit—these biases.
  • Rewards and risks associated with disruptive innovation companies from a value investor’s perspective.
  • The most promising asset class for the next 7 to 10 years—and why.
  • New perspectives for retirement plan investing, for institutional or individual investors.
  • The greatest current career risk for investment professionals and how to address it.

“We encourage all students and professors interested in Ben Graham’s value-oriented investing principles, including how investors can take advantage of market irrationality and undervalued securities to build long-term wealth, to apply,” says Bob Schmidt, Manager of the Brandes Institute. “At Brandes Investment Partners, we strongly believe in promoting critical conversations about diverse aspects of investing. We are excited to once again launch this program.”
