Stunning iPhone 8 Concept Brings Rumors To Life

Updated on

Apple is widely rumored to come out with a revolutionary new iPhone this year to mark the 10th anniversary of its iconic product. The upcoming iPhone 8 is said to have a glass and stainless steel design similar to the iPhone 4. The device is said to have a glass panel on the front and back, supported by a stainless steel frame in the middle. There have been many other rumors about the iPhone 8, and concept designer Imran Taylor has brought them to life with his stunning new concept.

This is what the iPhone 8 is rumored to look like

Imran’s legitimate-looking concept is based on the rumors and leaks over the last few weeks. The concept iPhone 8 lacks the physical home button. Apple is reportedly planning to embed the home button and fingerprint sensor in the OLED display of the smartphone. The concept also has a high screen-to-body ratio, thanks to a bezel-less display.

Though we haven’t heard rumors related to this yet, the concept designer has added a secondary touchscreen with a fingerprint scanner located under the main screen. It dynamically changes the interface based on the app you are using at the time, similar to the new MacBook Pro’s touch bar.

It has iPad Pro-like Smart Connector

The concept iPhone 8 has a slim stainless steel frame connecting the tapered glass edges on both front and back of the handset. According to 9to5Mac, such a design will make the new iPhone more comfortable to hold despite its larger size.  KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported a few months ago that Apple was working on a smartphone design with a glass back. His claims were later confirmed by leaks from Foxconn and other supply chain sources.

Imran Taylor’s concept also has an iPad Pro-style Smart Connector on the rear. The Smart Connector would allow users to connect to keyboards and other accessories without using the Lightning port. The dual-camera setup on the back has the secondary camera positioned below the wide-angle lens, as has been rumored. Placing the two cameras vertically could be aimed at offering augmented reality.

iPhone 8 to have Apple’s in-house wireless charging tech

The iPhone 8 has been rumored to feature wireless charging technology from Energous. Recently, Energous CEO Steve Rizzone indicated that his company has a partnership with Apple, and Energous’ technology could debut with the iPhone 8 later this year. But Copperfield Research claims in a research note that Apple is likely to use its in-house inductive charging technology rather than Energous’ long-distance charging tech in the iPhone 8.

Apple has filed several wireless charging patents since 2013. In one of the patents filed in 2011, Apple described the technology used by Energous as “inefficient, complicated and hazardous.” Energous’ near-field magnetic resonance technology poses radiation risks, claimed Apple. It’s worth pointing out that the patent was filed long before Apple entered into an alleged partnership with Energous.
