Samsung’s upcoming flagship smartphone Galaxy S7 is still a few months away, but it has seen a fair share of rumors in recent weeks. The device is expected to be unveiled sometime in February 2016 instead of the usual March/April launch. Now SamMobile has learned from inside sources that the Korean electronics giant is gearing up to launch three different variants of the Galaxy S7. And each of them will feature a different processor.

A third Galaxy S7 variant to feature Exynos 7422

According to the report, one variant powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 SoC will be available for consumers in the United States and China. Samsung has been testing Snapdragon 820 extensively on Galaxy S7 prototypes for months. The Snapdragon 820 is based on 14nm FinFET technology and promises 35% performance improvement over Snapdragon 810.

Another Galaxy S7 model with Samsung’s in-house Exynos 8890 processor will power devices that will be sold in Japan, Korea, and European markets. Remember the Exynos 7422 processor that was rumored to be used in Galaxy Note 5? It is all set to make a comeback. Sources told SamMobile that Exynos 7422 will feature in Galaxy S7 version intended for India. If the report turns out to be correct, it will be the first time that the Korean giant would launch a flagship smartphone with three different processors.

Galaxy S7 with Exynos 8890 spotted on Geekbench

The official launch is still months away, so a lot of changes could happen in the device by then. Galaxy S7 running Snapdragon 820 has already been spotted on Geekbench benchmark tests. And now the device with a powerful Exynos 8890 chipset has also debuted on Geekbench, according to a Weibo post. The Exynos 8890-powered Galaxy S7 clocked 6,908 points on Geekbench’s multi-core tests. That’s the highest score by any mobile phone on this test.

It scored an impressive 2,294 points in single-core tests. By comparison, the A9 processor used in Apple’s latest iPhone 6S scored 2,487 in single-core and 4,330 points in multi-core tests.
