LG Unveils Galaxy S6 Rival LG G4

Updated on

LG just unveiled the G4 flagship smartphone in an event in New York City. The device features a 5.5-inch display complete with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. Other specs include 3GB of RAM, a 16-megapixel camera and a microSD slot.

The camera on the phone comes with an F1.8 lens aperture; the number represents the diameter of the lens opening. A larger number means more light will hit the image sensor; a lower number means a great lens area. The G4’s camera compares favorably with cameras found in the iPhone 6 and HTC One M9. The color spectrum recognizes light and objects. This feature helps the camera adjust the flash color temperature and light balance.

Key features of the LG G4

Another notable LG G4 feature is the brighter display called IPS Quantum. The new display improves color by 20%, brightness by 25% and contrast by 50%. The overall brightness of 50% is better than that of competitors. The phone runs on a Snapdragon 808 processor instead of the rumored 810. The 808 runs cooler, which is likely the reason LG chose it over the newer chip.

LG kept two key features Android users complained that Samsung dropped with the Galaxy S6. The company also gave the phone a unique leather backing for a fresh look. Most smartphones have either plastic or metal backings. LG gave the G4 a small variety of color options for a customized look.

LG aims for a better battery

Like previous LG models, the G4 features navigation buttons on the device’s rear side. Perhaps the most important thing is that the battery holds more than a full day’s charge, something attributed to the device’s mobile processor. The company also admitted it sacrificed some of the phone’s slimness to make room for a larger battery.

The company’s CEO, June Cho, said they wanted something different with the G4, especially since most phones tend to look the same.
